At Axpona this year, I listened to some stand mount two-way monitors with both glass diaphragm tweeter and woofer. I have no idea if the measurements are good but they sounded really nice.
Could glass displace (your fave) tweeter material?
I thought this was pretty interesting. I do think we pay too much attention to tweeters and not enough to the mids but still I'm always fascinated by the innovation. Seas has released a new tweeter using a glass dome, and incorporating new faceplate for very smooth off axis response, while maintaining the efficiency of a waveguide.
I wouldn't be surprised if Joseph Audio was among the earliest adopters. I understand the Kii range already uses them?

Ceramic is a sound tweeter glass is silica made with other components diamond by far the most rigid , you internal Xover and capacitors will dictate the tweeter sound have modded Xovers for over 20+ years you want something with a little body for a neutral or bright tweeterlike a Mundorf supreme silver oil which is excellent on top but a little expensive |
@ronboco - Thanks for the complements but I was referring to Be tweeters being potentially toxic when damaged. I quote one of Focal’s own manuals:
I’m unaware of ANY other speaker component or material having similar instructions. It is perfectly safe to be around adults who aren’t busy sticking their thumbs into it, but it IS more brittle than aluminum or titanium and, as you point out, the dust is toxic when inhaled. So long as you avoid damaging them they are fine. This potential danger is also a reason why many manufacturers only sell Be tweeters with integrated screens. Having said all that, with normal precautions no reason why you should avoid them. I only meant to say that if glass gave similar performance to Be without the sky high prices for Be today and had a better safety profile they’d make excellent replacements. Your ears and wallets should judge, as always. |
