@audio-b-dog when I got the MA3 I compared it to Bricasti M3 that I owned at the time. Meitner sounded better to me. It was more natural and open sounding.
I had it for a short period of time but liked it a lot. I went ahead and ordered a new MA3i just based on my audition of MA3.
So…my take on it you didn’t make the wrong move especially if you’re planning to send it over to EMM Labs for upgrade down the road.
I think you will like this DAC. All I was saying is you can pick up a used MA3i.
See what this DAC does for you. Advantage with TMR is you can return it.
Does anyone have a digital system that is as involving as their analogue front end?
I have a good analogue front end. Not stratuspherically good but good enough for this comparison. VPI Prime Signature 21 turntable, Pass Labs XP-25 pono preamp, Pass Labs XP-30 preamp and Hovland Radia amp. It has a lovely, very involving sound. On the right recording, I just drop everythng and am drawn in to listen.
My streamer, on the other hand, is decent but not spectacular. It is better than my CD player, but it is not jaw-dropping like my analogue front-end. My question is this: does anyone have a high-end, tier-one streamer (dCS Bartok Apex, Lumin X2, or something like them) that can rival a good analogue system?

@audio-b-dog also I’m not sure how I managed to get you so fired up. I never said you bought a POS. You gotta dial that schiit down you grumpy bastard. Lol |
You said, " honestly I would skip it or send it for am upgrade shortly after receiving it. The new MA3i is on a different planet." So, let me give you an analogy so you might understand what I'm talking about. You're raving about your new upgrade, the MA3i, and some dude drops in and says, "Honestly, I would skip it. The DV2i is on another planet. I wouldn't even bother with the MA3I." I did like your second response, however, and thank you for that. When I was posting on the Jazz Afficianados thread, people were not even supposed to say what their hardware was. Some of the people could not afford a system and listened on their phones or radios. It was only about the music. I slipped up once and mentioned how good the jazz sounded through my speakers and somebody schooled me. I just talked about jazz from then on. I have a wife and family, so I must limit my stereo outlay. Obviously, I have a far more expensive system than a phone, but I'm careful not to make others feel bad or inferior. Anyway, from your second post, I think you get it. |
