Recommended Venus Label Recordings

Big fan of well recorded jazz on vinyl but have not tried any from the Venus label. I would appreciate recommendations. Not a big fan of cocktail music or schmalzy vocals but do love standards when played and sung with feeling and style.

I have 60-70 of them; all are very enjoyable (with only a couple of oddball exceptions). Definitely not Bitches Brew, but highlyly listenable small combo jazz.

@slf Thanks for your note.  My wife is a NH girl and we go back and forth between houses.  One is in Colebrook, NH, and the other is in West Palm Beach, FL.  If we could stay in Colebrook full time that would be our preference.  The problem is health care.  Doctors are scarce on the ground in the North Country.  So, we have to schlep down to this den of iniquity to see the excellent doctors that take good care of a couple of old goats.  Of course the day will come when we will get too old to keep making the trip.  We have decided when that day comes, we'd rather be where we're most comfortable and just be calm about dyeing.  So we'll eventually be back in NH among the sane full time.  Sorry we'll miss the concert.

I treat myself to a Venus record every few months. I absolutely love the Steve Kuhn Trio as well as Massimo Farao. Just picked up "Night of my beloved" by George Garzone and Trio La Paz. Really good stuff. Well played and immaculately produced and recorded

Thanks to all that have responded so far. Just arrived in my parcel box:

Phil Woods “Ballads and Blues”

Eric Alexander “Sunday in NY”

Eddie Higgins “Haunted Heart”

Archie Shepp “Blue Ballads”

Looking forward to spinning them later today!
