Spades are hard to work with when working from the front of a unit by feel to the back. Bananas work well for that.

Spades typically can be of higher quality metal--prefer crimping over solder. Mate that with the Cardas CPBP single knob binding post--ultra snug connection that will NOT come loose! For my money, the best connection out there. CPBP Single Knob Binding Post |
I’ll take bare wire over battered fish fingers any day. If not using bare wire I favor banana plugs, on newer gear, if only because they are easier. Used bare ended speaker wire in the 70’s/80’s and I’ve been using it for the past 25 years as well. I’ve had my 26 gauge speaker wire broken by cats, but I’ve never had it come undone from the binding post (same with the 22 gauge speaker wire that I’ve been using for a few years now as well as the various bare ended Kimber Kables I used decades ago).
