Let's start with power. Whole house surge protectors are cheap insurance not only fo your audio/video, but you refrigerator, stove, dishwasher, washer, dryer, water heater, and HVAC also. All of those have micro-electonics in them that do not respond well to surges. Brownouts and outages are different. They require backup power ($$$) and are best handled on a priority basis, e.g. refrigerator, yes, dishwasher, not so much. Internet equipment, absolutely. I run my router off a 600W UPS that keeps it up for about 12 Hours. I have a gas on-demand hot water heater, it draws 6W standby, 20W in use, so it will run for a week on 600W backup.
A Dedicated 20A circuit for your AV is also basic. And unless your UPS can handle 2KW for an hour wile providing true sinusoidal 60Hz power, I wouldn't bother.
As for speakers, I've never been an L-100 fan. In 1980 JBL intro'd the L-110 which not only kicked the L-100s butt, but also the well-beloved ADS L810s. They went louder, deeper, cleaner, and imaged incredibly. But JBL fanboys didnt like them because they 'only' had a 10" woofer. Point being, there are better speakers for your needs. If you like JBLs punch, but want something more refined, .Monitor Audio Silver 300s are a screaming deal. Or step up to their Gold series for even nicer finish and a ribbon tweeter.
