There certainly is some burn-in going on with any new equipment. I just suggest a different location: between the ears. AKA habituation.
Burning in a new setup
Hi folks,
I really appreciate all the help, information and suggestions I receive here .
New gear is still coming in and I want to do this right when setup day arrives.
When new monoblocks, preamplifier, DAC, CD transport and my pre-owned tuner are first setup, how should I go about the burn in time? The interconnects will all be new too. New speaker cables will arrive burned in already. I did order the XLO Test & Burn-In CD - HDCD too. Do I need to have volume audible during equipment burn in? Anything else I need to know?

@roadcykler - how does that explain how I can buy a new pair of headphones, listen to them for a bit, then put them on the back of a chair and let them go for a hundred or so hours without listening to them at all, and them putting them back on and they sound completely different, and like they should? I would have returned them if they'd continued sounding like they did out of the box. For headphones and speakers, burn-in is very, very real and understandably so, unless you choose to deny my (and many, many others') experience with this. Things that have burned in sound better because they've been burned in. |
Again look at some Hubble’s in the $50-75 range. I put in a pair of orange medical grade ones rated for 20 amps about 10 years ago. Today they are about $100 each. At the time I had 15 amp circuits and they work fine. Since then I went 20 amp dedicated and reused the same duplex outlets. Im sure somebody will harp on this as not per code. But essentially you’re plugging the same gear into the same circuit and it won’t matter. If you move change them back. When your electrician comes for your surge protector ask him about dedicated circuits. I just did an extensive kitchen remodel and had dedicated 20,40, and 50 amp runs added it wasn’t that expensive.
