Advice on speaker cables.

Hello. First time post here and I understand there’s no definitive answer, just looking for advice. I have a midrange system to me anyway and most of it was purchased new recently after giving up on repair of vintage gear. I’ve been using the same 12 gauge Apature copper speaker wire since 1982 and figured I would upgrade. I didn’t realize the hole I was going down. I’ve tried Blue Jean 10 white sounded dull, as well as WBC 7 gauge which I somewhat liked except bass seemed boomy at the expense of treble and midrange. Cables I’ve been advised to try are Kimber 4pr or 8pr as well as Audio Analysis oval 12. I’ve only used bare wire in the past not sure if that matters. My system is Yamaha as1200, Cxn100 streamer, Rotel 1572 mkii cd, Nakamichi oms1a cd. Speakers are Polk monitor 10a I bought new in 1982 with recently upgraded clarity cap crossovers. All interconnects are WBC. Appreciate any advice on speaker cables. Thank you.

@kmm84 you need to stick to the exact same termination on both cables. Connectors can change the sound and bare wire will sound different than the terminated cable. Either stick to bare wire or have cables terminated the exact same way.

Some very good suggestions here....a few years ago I saw an inexpensive  speaker cable review on Steve Huffs reviews.  Gave at the price, gave them a shot in a secondary system and was really surprised at how good they were.  Fast forward and recently Steve posted another review and states he now runs these pretty much full time in his reference system....crazy.  I am experimenting with two pair running bi wire in my high end rig and totally shocked at how good they sound.  Their design is similar to Morrow, using a 247 ultra fine wire copper count.  At the price point worth a listen.  Find them on Amazon.  Micca 14 Gauge Pure Copper speaker cables 6.6 ft.  Under $30!!!!  I know this is blasphemy in audiophile world but has to be heard.  Have fun!

We are big fans of Kimber Cable and especially with the BFA Style Banana Plugs with dual set screws and polycarbonate shells. These banana plugs are uniformly tight fitting with great surface area. Another big advantage is we provide an allen wrench so that you can retighten the screws at a later date making sure that you’ve always got excellent copper to gold compression.

Check out what we offer:  Kimber Cables with BFA Banana Plugs

cable termination with matched to speaker terminals connectors is the best way to ensure reliable, well performing connection between amp and speakers, for years ahead!

My wife and I have three systems in our home. The main system uses $$$$ speaker cables and interconnects.

The other two use speaker cable purchased at BestBuy for about $50 for a spool about 100 feet long.

Use the speaker cable from BestBuy. You will be pleasantly surprised.
