Speaker Help Please: Floorstanders around $1Ok to fill very large space with no sub

Hi Gang, haven’t posted in here in years...
A great friend of mine is going through major remodel and looking for 2 large floor standing speakers to fill a great room 38’ long x 20’ wide with a celling that slopes in one direction from 15’-8’. so about 7200 cubic feet.
He is very serious about music. Used to book bands. He listens to a lot of New Orleans groove-based music and Americana. His wife loves female singers, like Brandi Carlisle.
My main advise to him is, since he/his wife don’t want a sub, they will need speakers with sufficient low end.
Haven’t thought too much about amp yet.

He will also use the system for 2 channel home theater watching.
Thanks for any suggestions

@bigasscab honestly I have never seen a more hodgepodge collection of answers.  I think you are better off ignoring most every answer here and just go listen to some.  A few are great speakers.  Even an audio show in small rooms will give you ideas about how speakers  / electronics fill a room.  I do agree two subs is the way to go, even with large cones and big cabinets.  They always improve things.   Don't skimp on the electronics.  But you do have to decide on type, as about 5 types have been recommended here:  360 degree emitters (ohm, mbl) electrostatic panels, horns,  sealed and ported designs.  I would stick with conventional designs, ports or not, and consider two subs.

A lot of great suggestions.  Suggest using a local dealer that will let your friend buy and try and return for another pair if not happy.  That or a manufacturer or online that will let him buy and try and return for no or little cost.  I agree with the Perlisten if it was my money with that room.  I would also look at Arendal 1528 towers.  I think they will need subs if they are serious as you say they are about music.

second hand:

Revel Salon 2

Revel F328Be

maybe the Kef Reference 3 Meta or the Blade 2 (though they might be too small)

new:

Polk L800

Klipsch Cornwall IV.  Heard them in Hope vs Heresy, LaScala, KHorn and Jubilee, mix of gear, McIntosh mostly. Big expansive sound, with deep, warm, powerful bass.  I have Forte IIIs at home, Cornwall is the bass king with classic Klipsch midrange and top end.

Read up on the Arendal 1528 Tower 8's.  Great for large rooms and no sub woofer required.
