MSB Technology -- the "best" digital can get?

I don’t go to hifi shows or high end salons, and have never personally heard very high-end DACs (or CD players).

But the MSB Technology Sentinel DAC, at $375K USD, might be worth a listen.

There is a 2025 factory tour video of MSB on YouTube. They spend a lot of time on milling and using space-age machines for pick-and-place, etc. But there is absolutely no mention of the discrete DAC models MSB has been "perfecting" since the early 90s.

I have no idea  whom the Sentinel is intended for other than top CEOs, billionaires, et. al.

And does it really, sonically approach, say, a $10K vinyl or open-reel system?

Hey folks… if you own certain very high end products, use your phone, take some photos and put them in a post.

My current digital references are: Musical Fidelity A3-24, diy modded. A Philips CD-60, heavily diy modded, and about 70 other similar digital projects in closet storage.
About 20 ‘tables, but only one or two are “higher end”. Much more fun to mod vintage stuff that was, say, sold at places like Crazy Eddies or Pacific Stereo or Highland Appliance.

Lemme know if you want to see photos.

I've got an MSB 'Analog DAC', which was their bottom-of-the-line about 10 or so years ago. Fine piece of gear with excellent support, even though I bought mine used from somebody else. I wish I could afford that kind of money, but I doubt I could hear the difference between $20K, $100K, and $375K DACs. For very wealthy audiophiles, spending 6-figures would equate to me spending $10K or something.

@larsman The Analog w powerbase was on my finalist list and in the long at home demo pile in the way back machine of time - I believe it is an excellent DAC !!!!!!!! Good choice for music lovers

A good DAC is one that fits one's system and taste, and someone's "best" will not be everyone's choice.  The sound of very good, well regarded and expensive DACs may be fundamentally different that one regarded as very good by one person may be totally unsuited for another.  The sound of systems where one would put an MSB or Berkeley or WADAX DAC would be a very different system than where an Audio Note DAC would be found.  I happen to be a fan of the Audio Not DAC kind of systems.

I've heard a six figure MSB DAC, but, not in my system or even in a system that is a match for my particular taste.  How can I possibly evaluate its sound?  The dCS stack I heard in a system I am familiar with and liked a lot did not do it for me--it was a touch clinical and I did not engage with the music as much as I did with the Audio Note DAC 5 that was usually in the system.  This is clearly a matter of personal taste and "ranking" or "best" are not meaningful concepts.
