MSB Technology -- the "best" digital can get?

I don’t go to hifi shows or high end salons, and have never personally heard very high-end DACs (or CD players).

But the MSB Technology Sentinel DAC, at $375K USD, might be worth a listen.

There is a 2025 factory tour video of MSB on YouTube. They spend a lot of time on milling and using space-age machines for pick-and-place, etc. But there is absolutely no mention of the discrete DAC models MSB has been "perfecting" since the early 90s.

I have no idea  whom the Sentinel is intended for other than top CEOs, billionaires, et. al.

And does it really, sonically approach, say, a $10K vinyl or open-reel system?

To be honest these people charging this for digital are rip offs

plain and simple  now even $10k in parts cost ,and I am being generous how do you justify $300 k+  because you put in a lot of time designing ,

some people charge $500 an hour and tell themselves it’s justified,

llook at Wilson $1 million +. For a set of speakers , in parts not even $50k

all markup worth maybe 1/4  this if thst  ,I owned a Audio store for a decade .

and spoke with many dealers ,mfg at shows , some people just have huge egos

and I look inside everything I buy  rarely do I see the absolute best of Anything

make it look fancy ,then  mark it up.

in reality charge less ,make it up in volume and other people spreading the word .cablles are  one of the worst offenders  10x + the markup in parts cost .

The market strategy has been discussed elsewhere.  Dramatically overpriced  component, make its ownership a status symbol unrelated to value.  Hope to sell 10 units to benighted billionaires and clear a few million in profits

I an assuming that you made a typo in the original post.  I have not heard the sentinel but a Cascade will wipe the floor with a $10K vinyl rig.  I assume you meant $100K.  A DAC at that level is going to give a TekDAS table a run for its money.  The analog will still win but it will be close and the convenience makes it infinitely easier to listen too.

I have a customer who has a DAC that is half the price of the Cascade (Linn Klimax DSM) and he finds it uncomfortably close to his $200k analog rig.

$10k vinyl was not a typo.

Yes I am aware that Cascade is just under $100k.

I’ll wait for Fremer, TAS, or AV Show Reports for additional analysis.

If MSB, or whomever , at even $1M , can push 16/44.1 Red Book to compete with, say, a $10k table/ arm with another 5k on cart and 3k on phono preamp…

… that would be important if I could personally attend such a comparison listening room.

In the factory tour video, the MSB listening room was shown. But I saw no analog source gear in the rack.
