I’m a big ProAc fan, and if I wanted to keep the good things while still being tube friendly and just adding a little more detail/sparkle up top and maybe a little more dynamic slam I’d look at Fritz speakers and maybe Reference 3a. Best of luck.
Legacy Audio Studio HD Bookshelf Speakers vs ProAc Tablette
Hey everyone-per the title, has anyone compared the two? I mostly listen to jazz, and my audio room is about 15' x 10' with 8' ceilings.
I have the Anniversary Tablettes and like them. They have terrific resolution, really large soundstage for their size and mate well with my 12 Watt, Unison Simply Italy. Are they lacking in any category? I'm not sure. They are all they're "they" say, and I think they are "polite."
Meanwhile, my research says the Legacys are "lively, dynamic, and detailed sound, particularly in the upper midrange and treble." That sounds intriguing and kinda "sexy."
And, you know how/what this hobby (addiction?) is like. Periodically, you get wanderlust. And you can get in trouble with your significant other, engaging in "That" kind of wanderlust. But in audio, it's scratches an itch; no harm done. BTW-have I mixed enough metaphors, and put in the requisite enough quote marks?
Anyway--any insights, experiences, comparisons are appreciated!
David

@soix -Thanks for the recommendations. I emailed Fritz (who regularly reads these boards) and his FRITZ CARRERA R looks interesting. I do remember your description of the Reference 3a. |
Last week I received my Legacy Studio HD pair... the best sound I have yet heard out of my Raven Blackhawk LE (2019) tube amp. (Background: I have done extensive listening with a respectable number of bookshelf speakers as well as a pair of Avalon Eidolon speakers...almost enough oomph from the Raven.) These speakers sound outstanding in my 11' x 15' treated home office. Approximately 16" from the back and side walls, putting about 8 feet apart with a 5-10° toe-in. Great soundstage, excellent detail, beautiful song, "emotional"... However they do benefit in the low frequencies from a single Lyngdorf BW-2 sub --I have the Legacy Bass trim "down"-- which makes a perceptible improvement for both the low and low-mid ranges. This is a fantastic combination of bookshelves and sub. The space does not warrant 2 subs for me. I just added a PS Audio PMG 512 DAC and I could not be happier with the results. The next setup change will be to properly isolate my turntable and enjoy a Rye Old Fashioned... |
