watching this thread, too. I’m not ready to buy yet (moving in 2026 first). I haven’t listened to any yet, but I’m interested in denafrips, Schitt & Gustard. One thing that bugs me, especially for this price range, is why do they all offer so many inferior digital inputs (Coax & Optical) versus multiple AES/EBU, etc. I understand the I2S interface problems from source to DAC, so I wouldn’t expect multiples there. That said, what inputs do you users actually use and from what sources? I don’t anticipate needing more than a streamer and a CD/DVD player as sources. Am I wrong? Also, do all these inputs have jitter reduction on the incoming DAC side, or is that an issue too?
$2000 Dac
I have kept my eyes on the Dac comparisons. What I'd like to know is what Dac can I buy new or used for under $2000? I am looking for examples that don't throw the voices so far in front. Yes, I like the detail. I am coming from a Luxman dac that was very good, but I just felt the voices were too close, often pianos felt the same. Sometimes almost feeling a little glare as well. So, I am searching for a detailed dac with a little more laid back mids for under 2 grand, new or used. thanks

@mr_bill I was also of that opinion until I heard and purchased the imersiv D-1 DAC. It is a pro DAC and really sounds unlike any DAC I have ever heard. The fact that it measures better than any other DAC was NOT a positive indicator for me, I liked the DAC in spite of that. |
