OP, Soundsmith is getting settled after a forced move from where they have done business for 20 to 30 years and still getting settled, they are my first choice for rebuilds but might be behind the eight ball right now and are running behind as they have one of my carts right now, WTS I have been very satisfied with VAS on the rebuilds on a Dynavector DRT XV1s and a Miyabi Standard with very quick turnaround. Enjoy the music
Ortofon MC X30 broken cantilever - what are my options
I purchased this cart about 3 months ago. After playing a record yesterday, I noticed the Cantilever was slightly askew towards the center of the record. I decided to brush it lightly with a dry stylus brush to see if something was loose. The cantilever fell off. I do not recall any event that could have damaged it but you never know.
I have sent a message to Ortofon - but what are my options? This is my first time with a broken MC Cart.

Did I read that the original cartridge cost $70? I must be mistaken. I haven’t looked at MC cartridges in a while but never saw anything in that range.
I had a friend with a MC cantilever break on a $2K cartridge and after a long back and forth with the manufacturer and dealer he was SOL. I have been using MM cartridges ever since, however Vinyl is not my primary listening medium |
@mahler123 I believe the $70.00 mentioned was for the inspection of the damaged cart. Enjoy the music |
