Possible REL upgrade?

I'm considering a subwoofer upgrade...

Currently running (2) REL S/3 SHO subs paired with Joseph Audio Pulsar 2 Graphene speakers...

To the point; I've noticed a handful of REL S/812s available new, new in box (discounted) and used...Is the move from the S/3 SHO to S812 a lateral? Ideas?

I have a 12'x18' room.

Definitely an upgrade, and maybe some good prices now that the new models have been introduced...

Ok, let's change it up. Thoughts about going to (1) Special Carbon sub vs (2) 812s? Too pricey to go with a pair...

hmmm   great question.  I love the Carbon Specials.  I can turn one off and it still sounds great.  No doubt two helps smooth naughty room nodes, but who know? you may have no issues with one.  The Carbons Specials are so smooth at integrating...read REL's set up instructions and it is easy to get one just right. Plus, the Carbons hold their resale quite nicely...and one day you might get another!  Like any component, I would get the best I could afford for now.  Quality leaves no regrets??
