One major reason is that honestly dacs for PCM have gotten MUCH better. Redbook (44.1kHz/16 bit) on most DACs sound so much better today than 25 years ago.

Well I attended an audo presentation that was comparing CD's via the CH precision system, streaming and files downloaded to a computer. All the masters were the same. This was a top end system from CH Precison 10 and the new Innours NAZARE streamer. The CD was the best sounding of the three. There you go. |
Quote: “ I am heavy consumer of both vinyl and cds. My streamer gathers dust. Sort of a flat earther type I guess.” Just wondering - have you ripped your CDs so you can stream them? Or is your streaming dependent on buying external streaming subscriptions? I can understand why you’d prefer to play your own CDs if your streaming is confined to subscriptions services, but not if you’ve ripped them. i did rip my entire CD collection of 2000 CDs and have quite a nice set of equipment which makes for good sound when streaming them and I don’t think I’ve played a CD since except to compare the SQ between my ripped and streamed CDs with those played through my Triode CD player. I can hear no difference.

@echolane to answer your question, yes I have ripped maybe 2000 cds and as you say they sound fine. Unfortunately I keep wanting to look back at the meta data so wind up pulling out the discs anyway to read the notes. Ergo, most of the time I might as well just spin the discs. So I have given up on that idea. @mark200mph Would you comment on your 10XD vs. your SACD-10? |
