Accuphase amplifier choice

Hello All,

I have decided to upgrade my Parasound A21 amplifier looking for a more refined sound. The following are the amplifiers that I have in my mind:

Accuphase A-48s
Accuphase P-4600
Coda No. 8 (meterless)
Coda 16.0 (meterless)

Currently I am leaning largely to Accuphase. My dealer says that the Class A 48s will sound better with my ProAc D48R. But I am worried that I will lose dynamics since the Accuphase is only 50W into 8 Ohms. But it doubles all the way into 1 ohm.

The P-4600 is a higher wattage amp and I think it should be able to drive the D48R with ease because it doubles down to 2 ohm load. So I am not concerned with it's ability to drive the ProAcs.

I do have some feedback on the P-4600 from another thread here and appreciate it. But now looking for some comparisons.

Has anyone compared/experienced the Accuphase Vs Coda amplifiers? Any feedback is appreciated.

Thank You

I just now responded to @lalitk that the difference is not subtle when I made that statement. But that the same time the sound difference is not 5X of what you would expect between the Parasound and the Accuphase. I was really happy with the Parasound. But I wanted to experience the "upper end" of hifi and now was a good time.

You are right - I was up until 1:00AM last night and that was when I was texting you. Thanks for sharing your experience and enthusiasm about this amp.

@fire_water , @westcoastaudiophile we had discussed about how successful this amp would be to drive my ProAc D48Rs. Using the 3 second meter I was able to find that the needle stays between 0.1 to 7%. Only once did it do to 10, and that too very briefly. I am thinking this is 5 Watts? This was on the Nils Lofgren "Bass & Drum Intro - Live" on Spotify.  And by that time the loudness on the meter was 86. I just wanted to see how loud I can get to make the scale tough 10%.

The scary part about this amp is that the "clarity" of this amp makes you NOT realize that you have "upped" the volume so much that it is not good for the ears. But I do not plan on experimenting it again. This was just a one-off.

Thank You both for your inputs!

congrats @milpai w/ A48S! I had A21 before moving to Accuphase, P4500/A48.. Accuphase is completely different design concept comparing to A21, with focus on micro-dynamics, at full range of power levels. also, switching from Pharasound amp to Accuphase completely eliminated “radio” and other RF interference effects in my setup, for both, RCA and XLR (true balanced) configs..

@milpai

Just noticed A48S in your rack..I would suggest a clearance of at least 4 inches. If you are unable to adjust the shelf height, look into AC Infinity fans. I am using a pair of these for my Accuphase, they are very quiet and works well.
