@doyle3433 Didn't catch your response to my question, whether or not you're familiar with the Lyngdorf approach?

As I mentioned in my earlier post, I believe the TDAI 3400 has the capability to allow you to run your tube amp through it, so you can continue your torrid love affair with it. Exagerating, there. It sounds real cool.

But, seriously, I think the 3400 would give you what you're looking for in the way of "dynamic slam, and grip on the low end" in addition to allowing you to continue to enjoy the sweetness and holographic image of your Cary. 

I want to encourage you to do a cursory search on what makes Lyngdorf's TDAI different. I especially recommend you read some user reviews.

I'm not a technical nerd, nor do I particularly enjoy that aspect of this hobby other than making sure I have all the right connections on my rig. But, my understanding is that this is as close as you're gonna get to, essentially, what they call a "wire with gain" setup, so that you can let the beauty of your Cary amp shine through in your presentation. I bet it would put a smile on your face.

Also not sure if you saw the response by @kennyc  By the way, if you hang around and wait long enough, (probably only for a second), I think you should be able to find a (close to brand new, and well cared for) one used for five grand.

My system provides a very nice sound, and I use mine on the "neutral" setting almost always, but Lyngdorf's approach to tone controls is also quite unique. They're not true tone controls, but allow you to essentially do the same thing by shaping the curve of the sound. I can't remember the term they give it off the top of my head.

OP:     I just have this itch i can’t scratch wondering if I am missing some dynamic slam, grip on the upper low end... or something of that ilk. Hard to put into words i guess.  
I know this.  I ran Manley 300B pre with Mahi Mahi mono blocks, Merlin BME monitors and JL sub.  Just didn’t catch it.

Now, ATC 50 active towers, ATC Class A preamp.  Slam, definition and done.  Good hunting.

Many good suggestions here. I am surprised no one mention Hegal. I own a pass 250, Krell k300, Accuphase 380, electrcompaniet 6 Mrk 2, mac352,Hegal 390. The Hegal seems to sound like all of these rolled into one. The Krell is the warmest with a that distinctive Krell bass. The Hegal puts out 250 into 8 ohms which would give you plenty of power. It’s slightly warmish, with a smooth top end. I have 11pairs of speakers and the Hegal is not fussy over what I pair with it. For your price range the Hegal would be my choice. 

I only heard the LYNGDORF TDAI-3400 once at the last AXPONA - it sounded great I made a note of it.  My tastes are Magico or YG accompanied with top electronics, unfortunately my budget says otherwise.  The Lyngdorf sounded like a much more expensive amp maybe 15k+, I was very surprised at it’s low price.  At its price point it might be considered a sonic bargain.  

Hello all, wanted to provide an update. I pulled the trigger last night on a Luxman 550AXII that TMR had, i felt that the price was right and I have wanted to get back into class A ever since i sold my Threshold 400A back in the day. (to pay for an engagement ring... no longer my spouse jeeze...) Anyway I am eager and a little nervous for it's arrival. We should start a support group thread haha.. To answer your question @tunefuldude I did get a chance to hear Lyngdorf a week or so ago and it was excellent! TMR had a second hand unit and the choice was not easy.
