The Technics GR is a solid choice in your price range (I have one). The ability to easily swap carts is important to me. I have no use for the DJ features (I think they have a model that is similar but without that stuff, I bought mine before the newer models came out). I doubt you will find anything better under $2k unless you are willing to buy used (an option for those that live in big cities, fraught with peril for those that don't).

If you have little interest in easily swapping carts, the Rega P3 could be had for a bit less and is delightful in its own way. Best paired with Rega carts.

always look a bit over your budget, something you might want might pop up. both the TT and the long arm are quite good I have read (never saw one)

alternate headshells with this arm pipe, there is a straight pipe for fixed cartridge that fits the arm base, like the Technics system.

clarify the voltage, a simple voltage convertor might be needed like I use for my 100v TT81.

I gave my friend an SP-15 in a black base, with a Grace arm, here's one in Rosewood, with the EPA-B500 Base, and the removable S arm-wand, for removable headshells. I installed that arm base on my friend's unit, the combo is compact and awesome
