Audible Shiny Gloss on Used Records--How to Remove?

Dear Colleagues,

I have a couple of vinyl records that I bought used, but when I play them, they have an unpleasant audible haze. When I look at the records, they have some kind of glossy sheen. It doesn't come off with ultrasonic cleaning and the like.  I'm wondering what this gloss might be and how I might remove it. Does anybody have any knowledge about such a thing? Thanks.

Try dawn. Doesn’t hurt.

Dawn is as good a stripper as anything- it is used by auto detailing folks to remove all the crap on car bodies to prep it for detailing. I don't know what to use for unknown foreign agents on a record, maybe Neil @antinn has an idea. 

I have concluded that a lot of the need to "clean" an older copy is a result of previous "bad" cleanings- that is, whatever agent is put on the record in an effort to make in salable is actually a form of contamination.

OK. I'll try Dawn and report back. Any particular type of Dawn I should try to use? I see they have several kinds. (I don't live in the states.)
