Tone Poet Sinatra in the wee small hours...is it that good?

I'd have to be in the mood for some Frank. It's really his vocals, his phrasing, the orchestrations are pretty old time- as you say, tepid. I have an OG Capitol of this album and several others- it's been decades since I've put them on a turntable but I kept them for some reason.

Sinatra at the Sands, the first pressing with the white bands on the top and bottom edges of the jacket is pretty good--last time I listened to it, mainly for "It Was a Very Good Year." There's a great piece of video on the Net of Frank in the studio recording that- he muffs the first take, then lays it down perfectly. The video shows him listening to the playback at the end. 

It's Frank's world, we just live in it. :)

@whart You are so right, one has to be in the mood for some Frank. I actually do think the current TP and the previous Impex release of ’Sing and Dance’ are quite good. However, not something that i would listen to that often. What amuses me is the almost over-the-top adulation that the new TP release is getting. Sure, it sounds fine, and Frank's voice is fairly well recorded, but it is no epiphany like some would like us to believe. 

Suddenly I feel the urge to buy a large Cadillac….

lucky for me my local audio crack den has thousands of records and as Tone Poet believers will assuredly have an open copy spinning…

Recently bought the Impex/SACD/"Sing and Dance With Frank Sinatra. I found myself getting into it..

@tomic601 - I knew a guy back in NY, had just gotten out of the joint, and his friends gave him a 76 Eldo coupe with a factory 8 track player and all the tapes- Frank, Tony, Dean, you know, all the guys. Bada-Bing.
