IIRC the many felt the H590 was not worth the increase of price to the H390 for the slight sonic uptick. Both DACs performed similarly very good. The subsequent release of the H600 had a notably sonically better DAC so I assume the following H400 has the same DAC sonic upgrade. If so, since the OP plans to use the internal DAC, my nod goes to the H400. |
If the H400 has a better DAC go for it. I have similar power (on spec) to the H590 driving 40.3 XDs and the meters and volume setting tell me the amp is barely breathing at moderate to loud levels. What those speakers do need is SS grip and plenty of headroom which I would think either option has in spades. What are driving your Harbeth's with now? |
Nothing currently. I purged some of my system in the last 6 months. I was using a Coda CsiB integrated, and before that a Pass 250.8 The Coda to my ears sounded better than the combination of the 250.8 and an XP-22 preamp. I still have my PS Audio Directstream 2 DAC. I'm planning on selling it and using the DAC in the Hegel. |

@krelldog Did you sell the CSIB because the sound changed over time and you weren't enjoying the sound as much or just a matter of slimming gear down so you have less components on your rack?
Also, did you end up with a Hegel? |
