Diagnosing a streaming failure

I have an VERY intermittent streaming failure, let’s say once a month, if that, with daily playing. I have a LAN connected Aurender N150 connected via Cardas Clear USB to my Qutest DAC playing Qobuz.

The failure occurs only at the start, no sound, conductor shows streaming. A couple times rebooting N150 & Qutest works… 2 times (including this afternoon), rebooting doesn’t work and swapping USB cables gets it working again.

So bad USB cable… not necessarily as putting the Cardas back, still works.

When failure occurs, my CD player always works (connected via coax BNC) to my Qutest. So that eliminates everything in my mind but the N150 and the USB portion of my Qutest.

My N150 only has USB out, so can’t check other outputs. I used to think it was an Qutest issue, but now not sure as a couple of times recently the Aurender skipped songs.

Thoughts?Any diagnostic recommendations would be very much appreciated! Thanks!

Agree with Audphile1,  I can pull the ether cable out of my N200 and it plays for a while.   All music is buffered to SSD.       I think it's a bad USB cable.

@mswale @sholladay Great advice. Although it appears to not be the problem based upon the Aurender buffers.
Can’t do direct ONT connection with AT&T & must use their gateway, but it is set up for pure pass through. will do speed test & ping with laptop using Aurender connection when I return from golf. Will report results. Will also do static IP.

I have the Stack Audio LAN silencer before my Aurender. Supposed to throttle back speeds to 100mbps. Will be interesting to measure that also. Thanks

Remove the silencers just for 💩s and goggles. Let’s rule that out. Also, I’m curious if you will still like it and will want to put it back.
Aurender doesn’t need these gadgets. The N200 I had sounded worse with fiktets. All you need is a good Ethernet cable. But test it and see.

@audphile1 @ghdprentice The problem occurred prior to adding the silencer. I can remove it, but it has nothing to do with the current problem. It did throttle back the speed, and improved the ping.
@mswale @sholladay I do have a ping problem, all the way back to my AT&T gateway, before it gets to my router. The LAN silencer improved my ping from 18 at the AT&T gateway to 11 at my Aurender.
