Wilsons new flagship
I thought this was interesting… When you cross the $750,000 threshold for a pair of loudspeakers—putting you in the exact territory of ultra-flagships like the Magico M9, the Sonus faber Suprema, or the Wilson Audio WAMM Master Chronosonic—you le...
Sent a link to my system to ChatGPT...
You have a magnificent system… design, implementation, & presentation are all spectacular. I was reading chatGPT’s description & thinking it likes your system much more than it likes mine. Then I saw your virtual system & understood. V...
“You have to open a door or window to let the pressure out of the room.”
@curiousjim You have a nice system… bought into all the potential “snake oil” add on’s… cabling… isolation..  acoustic treatments etc.., (I did also) yet you don’t understand how a 20 sq ft door can effect the acoustic properties of a room…Interes...
“You have to open a door or window to let the pressure out of the room.”
Wife playing tennis this morning, so tested with the door open. Results were cleaner throughout, but certainly cleaner bass. I plan to test with REW, but strongly suspect I will have the same results as @rjduncan  Great post… who knew.
“You have to open a door or window to let the pressure out of the room.”
Interesting question. My system is upstairs in the bonus room. The room is well treated, however when my wife is home & downstairs, I am asked to keep my door closed. The sound that would travel downstairs with an open door is now bouncing aro...
Do Audiophiles Hear Real Differences, or Are They Justifying Expensive Purchases?
@colossalsound Excellent engaging post, well written with outstanding logic on the why’s.
What type of cables make the most difference
Interesting question and discussion. I was surprised the conventional wisdom was PC. I asked chatGPT for its subjective opinion for MY system … interesting it’s recommendations were much more in line with my investment strategy. However, it does g...
Cable suggestions
Very nice system. Not sure which direction you’re going, but for USB, two recommendations. Audiomica Pebble consequence or FTA Callisto, with the FTA being the warmer & Audiomica the more resolving.
Supplementing KEF Ref 3 METAs
I have the pre meta Ref 3’s. They were upgrades for pre meta R11’s. I found the Ref 3’s to have substantially tighter and lower bass than the larger R11’s. I ran them both full range.  I have one Rythmik F12SE. With the Ref 3’s, the Rythmik high p...
What one change to your room, system, or setup made the biggest improvement?
Probably was my speaker upgrade, but that was a few months ago. My most recent change: Transparent Speaker Cable Plus > Ultra was significant. Upgraded Moon amp and Ultra interconnect arrive on Monday. Looking forward to the change.
Power Cable Suggestions.
I bought Maze Audio Litz with Billet plugs early on, when my system was upper mid-fi. They are 8 or 9 gauge, have excellent neutral sound with excellent noise rejection. Now that my system is high-fi, I continue to use them as they scale very well...
Do Fuses make a difference ib sound?
One way of playing with fuse results is used (as I mentioned earlier), but also the QSA black. At $28-30, could be a fun experiment. Start with your pre or amp. I think I heard a difference… but who knows. I then moved to the used SR orange for al...
Best concert you've attended
Had an In on tickets in Detroit in the 70’s. So if they came, I saw them. My 3 favorites:  1. 1970 Olympia stadium. Johnny Winter, Rod Stewart, 3 Dog Night. My first major concert.  2. 1972 Cobo Hall. Stevie Wonder, The Rolling Stones. Because St...
Do Fuses make a difference ib sound?
Not sure. Bought used SR orange for all my components. They are very reasonably priced used, so a low cost tweak. As with other low cost tweaks, if they improve things… great… but don’t A/B. As @mitch2 said, they certainly don’t sound worse.
Turntable Causes Speaker Cones To Excessively Move Rapidly
I had exactly the same problem early on. Turntable & rack isolation cured it.
