Is buying a “used” subwoofer a bad idea?

I've bought several over the years/ All was good.

I feel a lot better about buying a used subwoofer.  I’m not looking for a thumper but rather to extend the bass of my full range floorstander and support the bass to midrange.  Thanks to all for your input.

Well, in my experience, yes.  Virtually every audiophile I have ever known is excessively passionate and joyful over his discoveries and delight in high fidelity music. Guys peddling used equipment are unlikely to be happy self actuated people.

I spent a lot of time in mainland China. One amazing thing you see is that most all of the people over 50 have frowned and are heavily wrinkled and depressed walking looking with their eyes down.  They’ve lived through a lifetime of austerity,  and sadness. The youngsters are happy and gay and are skipping holding hands. They have a positive attitude towards the world because the world they’ve grown up in was getting better, sometimes stereotypes are prevalent and useful.

I have 3 REL subs bought used (2 Q150es and a Q108 MK2) from years ago and all still work perfectly. I also bought a new Classic 99 last year on a whim (not sure what that means) which is an amazing thing, although it destroyed my bargain basement sub cred. It was a "demo" model so there's that.
