Expensive Tube Amplifiers

I see many $4K to over $8K amps on eBay. Who would pay this a of money. A few years ago these amps were 25% of the current cost. I can buy a 'right' vintage amp and rebuild it and likely get same quality sound at these expensive amps for about $500 including parts. The 'right' amp is with quality and larger audio transformers.

@joeycastillo @lewm @dogearedaudio Thank you so much for taking the time to respond and educate me. I’ll look into push-pull that are at least 50 watts or higher, as I’m happy with my speakers and only bought them a year ago. Cheers.

@tutonunez The Link could prove to be the discovery that puts all your requirements in order.

I have shared in a very similar experience with a particular SS Design of Power Amp, and have the design currently on loan in my system.

A friend who has a long time experience of using that same SS Power Amp design. Has over past year created their own version of a SS Design that they are very keen for myself to listen to. This new encounter will be ready for me in late October. This same New Design was recently debuted at an Audio Show and had as result been exposed to a very well received response where orders have now been taken.

I can testify to how seductive an expensive tube amp and preamp can sound.  I was able to audition a Luxman tube amp and Luxman tube preamp in my home and totally (totally!) felt I had to own that pair in my audio system.  They were way over my budget at $7000 apiece.  But once you hear something so perfect for your ears and perfect for your musical tastes you can somehow bring yourself to do the unthinkable.  it was worth it.  I’ve had my run with vintage equipment and there’s a lot of hype about how great the old days were, but personally I think it’s mostly nostalgia.  I certainly suffered from that when I spent a small fortune upgrading my Pioneer SX-1050 stereo receiver that I bought new in 1978.  There is no denying It looks great but it can’t compete sound wise with current equipment.  At least not in the classical music and opera that I like to listen to.
