Recommend The Best No Frills Preamp up to $5K.

I'm vinyl only so I don't need much, except a warm spacious lush sound, but I don't want to sacrifice dynamics.

Vintage is ok too.

Assuming you already have a phonostage, and are looking for a dynamic sounding, “no frills” linestage, you might consider the Hattor Autoformer Reference Preamplifier for $2910 (RCA only) or $4774 (rca and XLR). (link)

A passive preamplifier but with the impedance benefits of autoformers, so no loss of tone or dynamics as is common with resistor based passives. Excellent clarity, tone, and dynamics for the price.  Nice display, multiple inputs/outputs, dual mono (so balance control), and all functions accessible through the metal remote control.

Hattor’s The Big Passive/Active Ultimate Preamplifier with three user adjustable gain options is another great sounding linestage for the price.

There are tons of preamps, so you are probably overwhelmed with recommendations.

My suggestion is to audition the Bryston BP-19. It is the acclaimed analog circuitry from the BR-20, but minus all the digital sections. There are online dealers that have return policies if you do not have a Bryston dealer in your area.

Happy Listening!

I own the Rhythem 1.3.  While slightly out of your budget, highly recommended.  I bought mine used directly from Backert and have been very happy.  The circuitry is simple, only 2 tubes and the power supply is unique.  Worth checking out.
