Nope. Next question.
Is bi amping worth it ?
New thinking ?
the subwoofer world is quite confusing . so I have left that decision alone for a bit. I have recently read where bi amping the khorns could give me the little more bass punch I am looking for. ? The 601 mono-blocks certainly have enough power but I have a tube pre amp C-2300 that does not separate bass and treble signals so would need to add an external crossover.
anyone have any experience with this ? Is this worth the effort ? And if so any recommendations on the external crossover ?
thanks again everyone. I greatly appreciate all input from this forum.

As I posted above - mutli-channel amping makes a huge difference in the sound. You only have to listen to the Linkwitz or Legacy Audio speakers on Youtube to confirm this - nothing quite matches them. But - few people have the engineering knowledge and skills as Linkwitz and Duddleston (Legacy) - it is a frustrating experience for those who do not have their knowledge and skills to even come close to achieving such improvements in their sound. Don't do it - just buy one of their systems and be happy that you did! |
Update :
after asking this forum about bi amping to pull a little more bass out of my speakers. I became quite intimidated and also it seemed clear I would need to add another two channels of amplifiers to bi amp correctly . I decided to purchase a stereo pair of subwoofers. Specifically REL 212 . Beautifully crafted subwoofers. I was a little worried with the (4) twelve inch speakers in each sub that they would be overpowering ( two drivers and two passive ) but with the high level connection , one to each mono block . These subs fit in perfectly and if they weren’t so large and hard to miss I would swear it’s just a bit more bass coming from my khorns but bass you can hear much clearer and feel a lot. it has been the perfect addition . Just what I was hoping to accomplish. So I am totally satisfied with the sound of this system as of today. I fear that satisfaction won’t last forever as it never does. |
@hardhattg Well done....congrats! |
I've gone from a single stereo amp to two identical bridged amps twice and both times I thought it was worth it. Both times I thought it made the mid and upper bass sound more visceral. I'd describe it as a feeling of increased torque. It didn't make any significant difference in measured bass extension with sine waves or anything like that. I'd at least try it if you can do it without wasting a ton of money. Like many things in this hobby I'm sure it's not universal and sometimes isn't worth it. |
