I find it interesting to explore places I used to live or used to spend time at on Google maps.  I figure that old farmhouse must've been real close to here and judging by the look of the houses there now it might still be standing.  Look familiar...

@blue222 - You're asking a lot.  I'm thinking your best bet is to buy a plain power amplifier and run your computer headphone out to it using RCA cables and an adapter.  This and the comparable items are decent options I think.  Nuforce is suppose...

@jafant we're entirely different species of humans who appreciate what Thiel was trying to do.  It's worth noticing I think.  You and I are on opposite ends of a spectrum.  I don't mean to be critical or demeaning at all.  You have something I do ...

@Jafant - I agree about the cost effective implementation.  There's a lot of value in making something people don't need to be rich to own.  That approach is why this thread exists.  There'll never be a Wilson or magico equivalent.  So many people...
Does altitude change the sound of speakers??
If it changes the sound of speakers it's bound to change the sound of a lot of other things too.  Does it seem to change the sound of anything else you've noticed?
Has anyone successfully put their speakers in storage for an extended period of time?
I had some speakers in storage units for a few years.  No damage, they've been fine.  I had some other ones in my not super dry garage for a while.  They work fine but the screw heads rusted from the excessive humidity.
Why do you guys pursue a flat frequency response when you buy a subwoofer?
For those looking for music subs that aren't like cheaper HT oriented subs, I wonder if the home studio sub category would be a solution.  Sweetwater has a ton of options.
Why do you guys pursue a flat frequency response when you buy a subwoofer?
Why buy a sub from a manufacturer who can't even get a flat frequency response when so many can?  Of course there are room issues that need attention but you might as well start with a good fundamental frequency response.
If you listen to anything other than Classic Jazz, don't read this.
The idea that particular speakers aren't more suited to some types of music and listening styles than others is absurd.  The most obvious is amplified bass and listening volume.  If you like listening loudly to music with a  lot of bass, you need ...
Downfiring subs on carpet?
It doesn't cost much to try both.  Why not compare and report back?
Subwoofers - Front Firing or Down Firing - Which Sounds Best?
Sound travels at 1125 feet/second per Wikipedia. That means wavelength is 56 feet at 20 hz and 14 feet at 80 hz. Resonances are caused by reflected waves reinforcing the direct wave. If your room has, say, a 37.5 foot dimension, expect to have a p...

I'd look for a pair of Thiel 2 series:2.3, 2.4, 2.7.  They're great for acoustic music but not ideal for excessive deep bass that is common in some forms of amplified music and movies.  A lot of people describe them as Maggies with bass.
Subwoofers - Front Firing or Down Firing - Which Sounds Best?
In my experience down-firing is less likely to excite room nodes.  I assume because they essentially fire in four different directions rather than one.  I would speculate that in a perfect room, front-firing would be best because you could line it...
Two medium size woofers Vs One big size woofer
I wonder how the larger surface area of a large woofer factors into the acceleration factor.  A large driver with twice the surface area of a smaller one only needs half the movement of the smaller one to move the same amount of air.  That has to ...
