Speaker recommendations welcomed

Hi everyone,

Looking for some speaker recommendations for a second system and would love to hear your input.  Here's a list of what I'm after

Budget around $5k

Prefer no bookshelf speakers

Non-agressive tweeters

Excellent imaging

I don't have electronics yet and have only started my speaker search. Thanks!!

I’m in a similar situation, although I do not know my room size yet as we will be buying a new home in the spring and I plan on having a dedicated music listening room with two channel. With that it may be possible to be a 10’ x 12’ bedroom or larger den/family room depending on the house we find. But, I am seriously considering a pair of Buchardt active speakers with just a pre-amp with balanced outputs driving them. That way I can spend more on the speakers, pre- and front end without the huge cost and weight of a power amp. Backert line stages look perfect for the bill, although I may consider (possibly used) Jeff Rowland or Audio Research. With the Backert i would need a phono pre, but many affordable ones are out there.

Being that Rockports are in your main system, Vienna Acoustics, Usher, less analytical, more relaxed sound,  maybe SVS(I haven’t heard them) would be a nice change up from your reference? That is a large room maybe a used pair od Meridian DSP 7200’s, you wouldn’t need components and a pair of DSP 8k’s would certainly have plenty to fill a room that size! wink

If you go with Goldenear I would get Triton Reference just based on room size alone. Much bigger than the T66.

I'm always somewhat mystified by room size dictating speaker size. Do people sit 30 feet back from the speakers in large rooms? My listening space is in a large room with 18 foot ceilings, 20X30 feet or something, and I sit with my ears maybe 9 feet from the speakers in one end of the room. Efficient horns with 2 subs, and I rarely crank it up much except when I want the sound to bleed into the kitchen when cooking. I'm not an EDM freak having drunk dance parties (I admit drinking can lead to a volume increase, but I don't drink much). Get whatever speakers you like with whatever amp suits you, and the room won't care. One of my amps (Dennis Had tube SEP) fills this room with a massive 12 watts PC and the other is a Pass XA-25 with somewhat more power...doesn't matter...one bit.
