So all this new music is coming out all the time and none of it is as good as 'the old days'? Baaa. I'm 70 years old and enjoy contemporary pop and indie rock a lot more than Crosby Steals my Hash, Fleetwood Mac, Eagles etc etc.... Of course there was plenty of great music back then too - love me some Beatles, Hendrix, Grateful Dead, and loads of others. My point being that there is great music constantly being produced; whether you care for it or not is another story....
I don't think that this is a golden age for new popular or indie music. Take a listen for instance to the bands that are featured on CBS Sunday Morning. All "honored " by Rolling Stone or the New York Times, and all the same old boring non descript retreads. There have certainly been more interesting and exciting periods musically in my life, like first and second British Invasions and of course our own mid and later sixties greats.
He obviously does not listen to Radiohead or NIN. The music is there if you look for it. Popular music has always been mundane, for the masses.
Relative to some new music Sgt Peppers sounds positively antiquated.
Check out Modest Mouse, Artic Monkeys or Big Thief. All are current bands bending the rules. Jaz is also still going strong. The problem is that there is also way more garbage than there use to be. There is more trash you have to pilfer through to get to the good stuff.
@schubert - better for YOU, Jack! Don't presume to tell others what you consider 'garbage' - I doubt anybody really cares. Bach deserves better for a supporter.
