How have I missed out for soooo long!!!!

So I just picked up a TT that would work properly with my Marantz PM-11s3... Nothing special because what I had heard out of my last TT left me not really wanting to pursue vinyl and continue collecting redbook and SACD.
Anyway my 86yo father was coming in town and bringing some of his old favorite albums along with his great stories of a time past. He is the best story teller I swear and what hooks him is hearing his old music, it always takes him back!
This was the opportunity for me to upgrade to a TT that would let my Marantz use its phono stage and shine... And has it! I ditched the old budget Marantz TT for another rather budget TT in a Pro-Ject S2. But the real deal is that now the PM-11s3 is handling the the pre-amp chores and oh my God!!!!
How is it that no one in the last 30 years has asked “have you tried vinyl on that system?”
I am completely blown away at the performance of this entry TT and now am convinced that just after two days I will be at my HI-FI Shop tomorrow to order something much more in line with my system!
I played Diana Krall “Live in Paris” streamed through my Sonos connect via Deezer, then through my Marantz UD7007 on DVD, and then on the Pro-Ject TT.... The TT was the winner hands down! How have I missed out for so long!
Now I have to go get the SACD of this performance to see where it really stacks up but as of right now I’m hooked!
Here is to my father through his own way bringing ME back to a better time and I’m really enjoying it!

Great story, thank you for that. Keep enjoying your father's story's and him as they are both treasures. Enjoy the music.
Thanks guys! You are right, they are treasures. I went out and bought more Vinyl today so we can continue our music time together....
You’re fortunate to have such a great relationship with your Dad.

What a great compliment to your Father, and a great post to share.

Enjoy!

If you like it now, wait till you hear it with a decent phono stage. It sounds like you were using a turntable that had a built-in phono stage, which would explain your comments as those are crap. But now you are using the stage in the Marantz receiver, which is one small step up from crap. Which is actually the good news, as the huge step up you heard is with a phono stage on a card in a receiver, something easily beaten hands down no contest by virtually any stand alone phono stage. Of course then you will have to add a decent quality interconnect. But that is your weak link at the moment, the phono stage. Upgrade that and be amazed all over again.

Oh and since you asked, the reason no one ever suggested trying the TT is everyone has been brainwashed to the delusion its old tech not worth the time. Only takes a few minutes actually listening to destroy that one, as you now know. But hardly anyone takes the time. Good on you for making the effort.
