Synergistic Research MPC plugged in 24/7?

Just curious if anyone knows if the Mini Power Coupler (MPC) is supposed to be left plugged in and powered up 24/7? I read on another thread that one user had their MPC just die on them. It made me wonder if the MPC has some components in them with limited lifespan?

I've had seven of them plugged in 24/7 for 8-10 years with no issues. Yours is the first one I've heard of going bad, I'm sure there must be others. I don't worry about it.

Thanks Dan! Actually mine has not died but I just got it modded by Michael Spallone and lifespan on the Cap is listed as 7000 hours which is about 292 days if plugged in 24/7. I am perhaps reading the spec sheet wrong and misinterpreting what the lifespan number means.
Did some more digging on what endurance means. I guess this is the rated lifespan when the capacitor is operating at max temp and ripple current. Supposedly a rule of thumb is for every 10 deg C drop in operating current, lifespan increases by a factor of 2. So if my cap is rated at 7000 hours at 105C, a drop to 95C would increase lifespan to 14000 hours, still not all that great. I think I will unplug my modded MPCs when not in use.
Tom, you also have to take into consideration the fact that the transformer within the MPC is putting out only 24VDC as compared to the cap, which is rated at 50VDC, is therefore really never being stressed at all and only loafing along, and will last under normal usage 7 to 10 years.
Thanks Michael, got your email as well. Thank you for the replies. Frankly, I am so impressed with your mod that I just want to make sure I take care of it so it lasts! Keep on the lookout for more MPCs sent your way in the not so distant future. Thank you for a great mod!
Tboooe, you have nothing to worry about. I think the numbers you're concerned with are listed under EXTREME conditions in the factory that are never really duplicated in the real world.
