Stacey Kent LPs on Pure Pleasure

I have now acquired four of these LPs and want to lend a qualified endorsement. They are filled with jazz standards with mainstream arrangements. I find Stacey Kent's singing to be well above average, bordering on modern greatness, with a very pleasing tone and phrasing. Her husband Jim Tomlinson plays a beautiful sax (and occasional flute) and the rest of her band is quite accomplished. I'd give the SQ a solid 8 out of 10. Not spectacular but good enough to communicate the music effectively and with compelling emotion. Highly recommended and not overly expensive either.

You know, a very long time ago, I came across Diana Krall and her interpretations of the standards. For a verrrrry long time, she was my standard for the female voice in that current genre of music. Then one day, maybe 2 years ago, I heard Stacey Kent’s voice. Simply stunning. Not only does she take the cake, she takes the entire bakery.
