Songs about ecology

I was going to make a collection of ecology songs and need some help. So far I have Mercy Mercy by Marvin Gaye and cover by Robert Palmer. Big Yello Taxi by Joni Mitchell and Natures way by Spirit. Any help appreciated.

John Prine's "Paradise." How could I have forgotten that great song?! It's all about coal mining companies ravaging the landscape. Here's one verse in particular:

Then the coal company came with the world's largest shovel
And they tortured the timber and stripped all the land
Well, they dug for their coal till the land was forsaken
Then they wrote it all down as the progress of man.

And the song's chorus:

And daddy won't you take me back to Muhlenberg County
Down by the Green River where Paradise lay
Well, I'm sorry my son, but you're too late in asking
Mister Peabody's coal train has hauled it away
Dylan's "Hard Rain". This song has other geopolitical messages, but there is definitely an environmental component to it.
Interesting Project:

A song that is not in the mainstream, but is worth checking out is "The Planet" by Hans Theessink. THe song is on his CD "Call Me" from circa 1992 I believe. It also showed up on one of Burmeister's Sampler CDs.

Here's a link to the lyrics:

"Big Yellow Taxi", by Joni Mitchell - they paved paradise and put up a parking lot.

And then there's the Talking Heads "(Nothing but) Flowers."
Sorry couldn't resist.
Sam Cooke "I don't know much about ecology etc."

The Irish Rovers "The Unicorn"

and Great Big Sea "Mermaid"

Tower of Power "There is only so much oil in the ground"
Ecology song by Marvin Gaye

Where do the Children Play - Cat Stevens (and redone by Joni Mitchell)
Check out the entire No Nukes Two CD set. This was a live recording of an event similar to Woodstock with a great variety of music. Some really great performances to boot.
Try
James Taylor -- Gaia -- from the Hourglass album.
Dire Straits -- Telegraph Road -- from Love Over Gold
and, from the same album,
Industral Disease.

Check out Bruce Cockburn(Canadian). He's got a bunch, going back to 1970, but "If a tree falls" comes to mind.

...or even "we work the black seem" by Sting.
The Guess Who ,the song .... New Mother Nature . Ten Years After ,the song.... I'd love to Change the World (classic!).
"Natural Beauty" by Neil Young

"Burned by the Fire We Make" and "The Lone Rhinoceros" by Adrian Belew

"My City Was Gone" by The Pretenders

"Grey Cell Green" by Ned's Atomic Bustbin-Actually, it may be a pro-green song, but it might also be an anti-green song. I can't really tell, but it's got something to say about green!

Enjoy,
