Remote Subwoofer Controls

I haven’t had a subwoofer since my last one was burgled nearly 40 years ago, I recently bought a REL S/812 to pair with 32YO Dahlquist DQ-20s and new PrimaLuna EVO400 pre- and power amps. While I’m loving the remote gain control offered by PL (never had one before), I’m surprised a high-end company like REL doesn’t offer a remote for their subs. I find that I’m compelled to adjust the sub settings not infrequently, depending upon the nature of the source material and my chosen volume. I’m mystified by posters that claim they can set their sub(s) to a single setting and be content with fixed output. What am I missing?

I think the REL mindset is that once you get it dialed in you won't need to mess with it.   They prefer the speakon type connector from speaker level anyway

You would need to step up to REL’s latest Reference series or older G series for the remotes.

G series on the used market can be found for "reasonable" prices

Huh? Are you’re referring to triode/ultralinear swtiching for the amp? PL user here.

Some recordings can be a little bass heavy requiring a bump down.

No, I'm referring to the PL preamp remote, which allows volume changes.  The Tri/UL remote for the amp is useful, too.  So the REL Reference series has a remote?  It's annoying that it's not standard in the S series, enough so that I may look into an upgrade.

You are not missing anything.  I appreciate the ability to remotely adjust the output on my two Aerial subs, for the same reasons you state.
