TNT Hot Rod vs SL-1200G
I'm sure both would be great tables, so it may come down to what's important to you.  Before buying the 1200G I was weighing choices from VPI as well.  I have a friend with an older TNT rim drive setup and it is quite good.I've just retired and I ...
Pani ... New ART-9 up and running ...
So how would the Art 9 perform on the Technics 1200G? I have the ART9 as my primary cart on my 1200G. I used to use a Lyra Delos and the two sound pretty similar, but the ART9 has better channel separation, better midrange, and a more robust pres...
Pre amps cost vs. value ... what I discovered last month.
If all is impedance correct between source and amp/s.They sky's the limit, as no active preamp can equal the transparency/dynamics/lack of distortion, that direct source to amp/s feed can give. Adding a preamp in this case only diminishes and colo...
Recommended phono stage to go with McIntosh
@knollbrent Before jumping into the higher cost of the Herron (wonderful unit), consider your needs. Your opening post said you were only MM carts at this time. Most of us started out this way, including me. I had a MM only phono stage as part of ...
need help for speaker cable
The best way to see what you like is to actually buy something suggested to you or that you read about that interests you, as long as the seller has a return policy if you don't think they were a good buy. Most internet based cable companies and th...
Static electricity pulled the rubber mat right off the Turntable!
I have the Technics 1200G and was looking for a better sounding mat to replace the rubber one. I was also getting a bunch of static off of it.The Funk Firm Acromat (SL-1200 version) sounds quite a bit better and has helped with static. It hasn’t r...
Looking for a warm sweet speaker
Scan the usual sale sites.  Used higher end Thiels would meet your needs, I'm sure.  I'm still running almost 30 year old CS3s anchoring my home theater.  They are full bodied yet accurate and not at all etched in the HF.
What phono pre am I looking for?
I do use a couple of MM carts that I like with the Sachs phono stage.  I simply bypass the SUT and Don's unit allows full tailoring of the MM loading.  Don has been really helpful with recommendations for the loading settings for the specific cart...
What phono pre am I looking for?
@jmolsberg, a friend has the JC3 phono stage and we compared that to Don’s one weekend. They are different but I think comparable in quality. The JC3 clearly sounds SS where Don’s does sound like tubes in comparison. The Sachs phono stage is really...
What phono pre am I looking for?
Since you like tubes, check out Don Sachs' custom phono stage.  I have one and it is quite good, albeit MM only.  It can be had right at about $1k.  You could use a Decware SUT or have Don add a transformer for step up for less money.  Either of t...
please help! which turntable , michell gyro se ,, pro ject rpm 10 carbon ,, avid diva 2 ?
I'll avoid promoting either of the prior tables I've owned.  One eats too much of your budget, and the other is lower quality than what you are looking for.  I really like the EAT/Ortofon/JC3 suggestion.  Solid advice.
please help! which turntable , michell gyro se ,, pro ject rpm 10 carbon ,, avid diva 2 ?
It doesn't look like your preamp includes a phono input stage so you'll also need to factor in the purchase of a separate one.  Given that this will be your first TT, you also will need to consider what level of $$ you want to put aside for a cart...
Top ‘Mass Market’ Receivers ?
I won't buy another all in one HT receiver again when the time comes.  I've have Onkyo now, and had NAD in the past.  The NAD was the better sounding but it was expensive.I like the idea of separate video processor and multi-channel amp as two dec...
Technics 1200G Tweaks
Forgot to mention the Funk Firm mat totally eliminated static.  The rubber mat was bad in that way.
Technics 1200G Tweaks
This is my update after getting the Funk Firm Acromat.  Actually, I had rather low expectations, but the improvement in clarity, transparency, and tighter bass over the stock rubber mat was more than I was expecting.  My impression was the kind of...
