Magnepan 1.7
Hi Magfan,I started with the tweeters to the outside for no special reason. The currrent instructions for the 1.7's, just two sheets of paper with a thank you letter on top, no longer recommend tweeters in. They explain how to orient the speakers b...
Magnepan 1.7
Maplegrovemusic,I just picked up my 1.7's last night so this is a very early comment. I am upgrading from the 1.2's. I have started out with tweeters to the outside. My initial impression is that the 1.7's are much better than the 1.2's in a lot o...
Magnepan owners : past / present
Well - as always when talking about Maggies we get to how much power. Has anyone driven them with Class D amplification like the Wyred4sound STI 500 amps?By the way, I agree with part of what Soundlabs wrote "IME you just cannot give them enough p...
Magnepan Owners - Need Your Thoughts Please
Hi Bifwynne,I posted earlier and made a positive comment about my Mac amp at 160 wpc into 8 ohms and Maggie 1.2's. Since that time, I had the opportunity for an in home listen with a Krell s300i at 300 wpc into 4 ohms. The difference is amazing.Mu...
Magnepan 1.7
Magfan,Good luck on the frames. It sounds like a project to which you are looking forward. The Krell is still impressing me and I seem to have forgotten about the Mac sound because there is so much more to hear with the Krell.I played an old Nitty ...
Magnepan 1.7
Hi Magfan,Understand your comments and may yet have second thoughts. Time will tell. I am receiving full trade in value on the 1.2's, so for $1000, the better resolution and better soundstage seemed hard to beat. The bass was an interesting decisio...
Magnepan 1.7
I currently own MG 12's and like them a lot as they are very musical. However, they lack that bit of detail that helps with the sound decay and placement of the individual instruments in the soundstage. I have auditioned the 1.7's twice. The first...
how does current work in an amplifier?
Another question that comes to mind when selecting an amp is Total Harmonic Distortion. I read on another Audiogon thread about what amp for Magnepan 1.7's. One suggestion was an Emotiva Audio XPA-2. The EPA-2 is advertised at 300wpc @ 8 ohms and ...
how does current work in an amplifier?
Martykl,There is a Magnepan dealer in Columbus, Ohio who pairs the speakers with McIntosh as well. The last time I was there, they had 3.6's with something like 400 watt monoblocks. Very real sounding without too much high end in the treble decay.
how does current work in an amplifier?
Hi Magfan,I always wanted a Mac and figured it for good resale if it came to that.I want the slam without the treble going over the top. Mac seems pretty mellow in that regard, especially if I decide to upgrade to MG 1.7's. My 1.2's are less than ...
Maggie 1.2's Low End Crossover Upgrade
Josh 358,I have placed a fake palm tree in one corner and that speaker....well..it seems louder and the center of the sound stage has shifted. It appears that I can improve things with another fake tree on the other side to create dispersion there...
how does current work in an amplifier?
Guys, your knowledge is impressive, but gets confusing for the relative neophyte! The main takeaways that I got from the last several threads are: 1) do not get hung up on current because Ohms Law demonstrates that current really does not tell the ...
how does current work in an amplifier?
So.....all other things being equal (same room, same source, same cables, same other characteristics of the amplifier), am I to understand that an amp that delivers more current would do a better job of driving a 4 ohm speaker, like Magnepan MG12'...
Tube amp for double stacked Large Advents
Hi Truman,I had not heard about the Quicksilver amps. I like the American made idea. There seems to be a lot of "inexpensive" Chinese stuff out there - do not know how good it is.I used to drive the double stack Advents with a Mac MA6300 at 100 wp...
Best Amp for Magnepan 1.7?
For what it is worth, I run MG1.2's wth a McIntosh MA 6300 integrated at 160 wpc into 4 ohms. Sounds good to me.The efficiency of both speakers is about the same.
