Preramp for Adcom GFA 565's
Thank you for the good suggestions. This is hard - I keep thinking of reasonas to not pull the trigger on the amps.Am I nuts for wanting to move to the Adcoms from a new Krell S300i? I would be picking up another 150wpc into 4 ohms, and a lower noi...

Tweaking the Magnepan 1.7s
I listened to the Revels again with a CD by the Jayhawks that I know quite well. I decided that the Revels are not that great after all. Thery definitely have the bass and weight but they do lack the last bit of detail and resoluton that I hear wi...
Tweaking the Magnepan 1.7s
I think that we have already talked about tweeters in and out and front to back. You can change out the metal jumper. I replaced mine with a solid copper wire. I think that it makes the sound a little bit more detailed. Not sure how bid a deal tha...
Magnepan 1.7
Magfan, or anyone, any opinions about the best approach for Maggie stands? There seems to be the type that completely frames the maggies or the "Mye" approach which seems to primarily add bracing on the "back" side of the speakers.
Which Integrated for Magnepan MG-12?
I owned Maggie 1.2's that I listened to with a McIntosh integrated at 160wpc into 4 ohms.I then did an in house test with a Krell S300I at 300 wpc into 4 ohms. I heard amazing improvement as the Maggie 1.2's came alive. They needed the watts to br...
Magnepan 1.7
One other thing I forgot to mentin is that Magnepan provides plastic washers that can be used to tilt the speakers. They fit between the foot brackets and the speaker itself. When inserted this has the effect of tilting the speakers slightly back....
Magnepan 1.7
You are right - a free upgrade in about five minutes!I am going to savor this for a while before I flip them from front to back.Just seems a little too far out for my sensibilities at this point!
Magnepan 1.7
Hey Magfan, Are you out there? You may remember that I received my Maggie 1.7's just after Thanksgiving and originally set them up with the tweeters on the outside.Since then, the speakers have about 100 hours on them so I decided to start playing ...
Magnum Dynalab 308 drive Magnepan 1.7 or 3.6?
Ctunney, I own a pair of 1.7's and drive them with a Krell 300s at 300 wpc into 4 ohms. The Krell was a remarkable improvement over my old Mac MA6300 at 160 wpc into 4 ohms. To my ear, the upgrade resulted in more dynamics and more detail.
how does current work in an amplifier?
Mapman, The last few weeks have proven to me that your words about matching components are true. I had always wanted a Mac amp and got one and was happy with it until I got my Maggie 1.2's. At that point, the power into 4 ohms question came up. I ...
Magnepan 1.7
Hi Magfan, I do need to tighten up on my geometry! While being well aware that minute adjustments can make a big difference in sound, I have neglected the record keeping which will become more important as the speakers are broken in and I start to...
Magnepan 1.7
Hi Magfan,You are right about waiting some amount of time for things to settle in...and then test the options as you summarized. The main listening position that can be incrementally adjusted is as follows:The speakers are about four feet from the ...
Magnepan 1.7
I had seen tweeters "in" on the net. However, the speakers were shipped from Minnesota the week of Thanksgiving and the new instructions do not recommend tweeter orientation.
