Magnepan 1.7 w/ Tubes & lots of Class D Power
I had the 1.7's for less than a year and then traded them in for dealer demo 3.6's. The 1.7's were way too sterile for me. The 3.6's are much better to my ear. I bought Mye stands on Augiogon and they improved the 1.7's tremendously. Better bass a...
TECHNICS SL1200 MKII.......THE REAL FACTS
I set up a NEW SL1200MK5 that I found on eBay last December and went with a KAB/Ortofon Pro S cartridge and STY40 stylus. It took only twenty minutes to set up the table and catridge and I was spinning my old vinyl from the 70's. My albums sound gr...
Magnepan announces the 20.7
I had 1.7's and felt that, among other postive things, they sounded sterile compared to my 1.2's utilizing the same Pre amp and amp (W4S products). I traded up to a dealer demo pair of 3.6's at a steep discount and a one year full trade in value o...
Best speakers in the 3000 -5000 range
Maggie 3.6'sLook for a deal. I got a dealer demo pair with full warranty. Cost me $1,000 cash plus full value trade in on Maggie 1.7's ($2,200) = $3,300. My opinion is that you you should check out the 3.7's carefully before nixing the 3.6's.Based...
Emerald Physics 2.3 or Magnepan
I owned Maggie 1.7's for about a year. Blew away my 1.2's. The 1.7's are very dynamic with good bass. However, I thought that they were a little bit sterile sounding - not as sterile as B&W but just not warm enough. Then I heard Maggie 3.6's w...

Magnepan 1.7 too bright, HELP
I tried a couple of different subwoofers with my 1.7's including a Genesis 928 with dual 12 inch woofers. I did not like it - could not seem to get the bass right in terms of loudness. I was changing the gain all of the time depending on what I wa...
Wyred STP-SE : Break In Times
I bought a new W4S STP-SE and ST1000 amp and probably have 100 to 125 hours on the units. They are running Maggie 1.7's with an AudioSpace CD8 as the source. I routinely play the Maggies at 40 to 50 on the volume control so I am staying in the pas...
DENON DL-304. Is it the bargain sound or not?
Many threads mention a thick slab of butcher block wood to help the sound of the table.I was wondering if a slab of solid granite (like a leftover from a kitch counter project) would do the trick?Or is there something inherently wrong with stone/g...
Magnepan 3.7's versus 20.1's?
Brownsfan, Thank you for your comments. As I think about it, certain albums do provide better soundstage and depth of field than other albums.So...it appears you are suggesting that the 3.7's would not necessarily be too big for my space?
Magnepan 3.7's versus 20.1's?
the front wall is the 15 foot wall. there is no way to place the speakers along the long wall
Magnepan 3.7's versus 20.1's?
This is an interesting discussion to which I would like to ask a question. When is a room big enough for 3.7's?I upgraded to 1.7's from 1.2's and heard a world of improvement. Due to room size and physical set up, I do not think that I am getting ...
magepan 1.6's with mac ma6500 integrated
I ran Maggie 1.7's with a MA6300 at 160wpc/4 ohms. It was okay but I felt that I was missing something. I then moved up to a Krell 300Si Integrated at 300 wpc/4ohms. This was a big improvement. Much more detail and resolution. Better bass.I am now...
Best Amp for Magnepan 1.7?
It would seem that more power would help if the amps are shutting down after 30 minutes. I had the same problem with a Krell S300i integrated at 300 wpc/4 ohms. More power will open up the Maggies and give the low end a boost.
Best Amp for Magnepan 1.7?
Sorry Magfan,I meant to say that the W4S person with whom I spoke insinuated that they were considering pairing their products with Maggies to help sell their W4S products.Your comment about running an amp within its limits is right on. My persona...
