My system is a time machine

Early Sunday morning, everyone is asleep, I'm streaming 80's music. For some reason Sunday mornings my system sounds the best, this morning it's just hitting me. Listening to songs of my youth with decades of wisdom in between. Not only are these songs bringing me back to my youth, they are brining up memories I have not thought about in 30 years. A different time and place, when music hit hard, but on my boom-box sounded so bad, then as a teen had staked speakers stuck in the corner of my room, just to play as loud as possible. Now I have a revealing pure setup listening to the music with new ears, thinking about time long past. 

Sunday morning listening sessions are the best.

Yep, Amped up emotions of youth connect with music in a very different way than later in life and can be windows into the past.

A friend dropped off a six pack of NoLi Cascade Fog. Two cans in, and am able to respond that Sunday listening is amazing 🤩! I live in downtown and no office workers makes me system very happy!

I’ve been listening to Sunday mornings for years.  Back in the day I’d go to town pick up the Sunday paper, hit the bakery then listen and read the paper with the family.  No longer go to town, the kids are gone, but I still look forward to listening on Sunday

In my youth, I typically heard music played on cheap equipment and more often than not, on transistor radios. In my adolescence, some friends had component systems but the sound was midfi at best. Accordingly, in my brain, there is no connection/correlation between the emotional impact of the music I heard in my first 20 years and high end sonics. It’s the musical structures (melody, harmony, rhythms), lyrics and the emotions artists put into their music that affect me and "transport me back".
