My system is a time machine

Early Sunday morning, everyone is asleep, I'm streaming 80's music. For some reason Sunday mornings my system sounds the best, this morning it's just hitting me. Listening to songs of my youth with decades of wisdom in between. Not only are these songs bringing me back to my youth, they are brining up memories I have not thought about in 30 years. A different time and place, when music hit hard, but on my boom-box sounded so bad, then as a teen had staked speakers stuck in the corner of my room, just to play as loud as possible. Now I have a revealing pure setup listening to the music with new ears, thinking about time long past. 

Sunday morning listening sessions are the best.

After reading your post,and reflecting on my own joyous listening session this mourning,I am deeply saddened that millions of people have absolutely no idea how powerful a connection to our own soul music can be...Those of us who have built a musical window into ourselves via the reproduction of recorded music are truly blessed!

That’s the magic of a truly well-designed system: it doesn’t just reproduce music, it reconnects us with the moments, emotions, and memories attached to it. Those ’80s songs carry so much personal history, and hearing them through a revealing setup today can uncover details and feelings that have been hidden for decades.

It’s interesting how our priorities evolve. Back then, we chased volume from boom boxes and speakers squeezed into bedroom corners. Today, we’re chasing realism, texture, soundstage, and emotional connection. The music hasn’t changed… but our ears, our systems, and our appreciation have.

I had the opposite experience at a concert last night. The energy and excitement were amazing, but the volume was so extreme that the drums and bass completely overwhelmed the rest of the band. The vocals and instruments lost their balance, and it became more about sheer impact than musicality.

Experiences like your quiet Sunday morning listening session remind us that the most powerful musical moments aren’t always the loudest ones. They’re the ones where the emotion, nuance, and memories come through….and that’s exactly why we invest in these systems.

Every Sunday, my local, very small little Classic Rock station, (on main street), from 8AM to Noon and again from Noon to 4PM repeats an episode of "Casey Kasem’s America Top 40".  They try to pick a date close to todays date, but from the 70’s & 80’s.

Never missed this show back then and just LOVE the hell out of it now!!!

Yep, Amped up emotions of youth connect with music in a very different way than later in life and can be windows into the past.
