CD/SACD player Under $4000
Looking for a new player. My Sony XA5400 won't play sacd's. Tried a new laser assembly but still won't play sacd's. Like to find something at least as good as the Sony. Does not need to be a network player. Open for suggestions!
A second vote for the Shanling SCD3.3, I bought this back in January and have greatly enjoyed its musicality for past 6 months. I play mostly SACD and use it as an R2R DAC with my Mac running Roon and Hqplayer. It replaced a Laiv Harmony DAC which was very good. the build quality of the top loader is excellent. There are 4 ways to control it, touch screen button on the device, physical buttons, the remote control and also a mobile app.

Exactly! I plan to use the 4k Shandling SCD3.3 SACD Player as a CD/SACD transport. It can also serve as a very good sounding CD/SACD player in another audio chain, especially if I decide to upgrade the transport later. So many rabbit holes… |
+3 for the Denon A-110. When my Sony gave it up I looked and read up on new offerings. Short of laying out $ for an Esoteric, I think the Denon holds its own. It is very well built, uses a quad of PCM 1795’s and high quality, audio grade components. The drawback would be for folks wanting balanced outs, The A-110 is SE only. |
@kennyc here’s my beef with shanling 3.3 player… 1. It has Bluetooth receiver - potentially added noise in a circuit 2. No native DSD - it converts DSD to DoP internally then sends it to its DAC (that’s my understanding but I could be wrong). The Onyx transport has no Bluetooth. It still converts DSD to DoP but sends it out via AES. My Meitner DAC will eat that and I’m pretty sure it’s better than the Shanling’s internal DAC. And I don’t have to deal with tubes :). |
