Help Me Narrow My Choices
I am going to buy a new Phono Preamplifier and wanted to hear about your impressions. My choices are Prima Luna 100 Phono Preamplifier, Sutherland Duo, and McIntosh C8 Tube phono preamplifier. I mostly use an AT VM760SLC cartridge and feed a Bryston SP3 Preamp. I am open to others also and not too particular about tube or SS as long as it provides fast transients and holographic sound stage. Budget is open but not much part $4000.
Check out Zesto. I am using their Andros Spirit MM with a SUT. It is also available with a 1:10 ratio internal MC transformer. I picked up a like new unit for $1200. Originally $3k. MC / MM id $4k I was using the excellent Sutherland KC Vibe , and was planning on the 20/20 but I think the Spirit was a better move for me. Using a Dynavector XX2 mkII. Combo sounds incredible Excellent sounding unit. If thinking of used their Andros 1.2 is a great deal used. |
Friend My experience has been that Tubes are the way to go with MM Cartridges. Please be aware that it takes quite a bit of money to experience the increments of performance in Vinyl be it MC or MM. And an interesting reality has been that not all recordings were done with what Audiophiles look for as a goal. All in all, you must determine whether Solid State or Tubes satisfy you. Your choices are all great products. |
