Subwoofers - crazy upgrade!

I’ve read it for decades , every where. Never tried a sub

Till now.  What a shame!  This is amazing.  Just 1 hour

in my system and not fully broken in or calibrated. opens

Up the mains, deepens stage, adds bass detail.  More

Soulful/open- dynamic- easy.  Svs 3000 micro R.  I do NOT

get the physical body compression, but musically wonderful!

I can overblow it a little to feel it though .  I have it on the stock feet.

i think elevation would allow more volume and gain to get

a physical impact while keeping it clean.  What an enjoyable

subwoofer!!

I am using the (4) JL F-113 subs because they have an in-room microphone calibration set up. Each sub has been calibrated based on its room placement to my sitting position. I find the corners to be the best in overall deep bass response.

My main speakers go pretty low by themselves, so I have the subs set at 40-45hz. and are at a low volume level to add something that the main speakers may not have.

I have a question for this thread.  I just moved into a new house and a smaller listening space.  It's a worse-sounding room than my last, so I am currently adding lots of treatment.  In small rooms, does everyone still recommend subs with full-range speakers?

In the early 80's, I was driving a set of AR9lsi with a Perreaux PMF-2150B. I thought surely I had low end. Then I found the Velodine ULD-18. DAMN! Not only did I find extra power for the AR's but it truly filled in the actual lows I had never heard before.
