AGD Duet Monoblocks

Considering replacing my Gryphon Diablo 120 integrated with AGD Duet monoblocks, using my Linn Selekt DSM (with Organik DAC and Utopik power supply upgrade) as a preamp direct to the monoblocks, paired with Vivid Audio Giya G1 Series One speakers. Objectives are clarity, microdetail, and imaging. Would be interested in comments from any AGD owners, especially AGD Duets owners. Thanks!

@campoly  Interesting.

I think change is coming and the days of $8k Class D amps may be numbered.

Here is a nice piece on this genre of amp (not the one I have now):

"I hooked up a pair of Fosi ZA3 in mono mode to my Spatial X-2 loudspeakers, which usually get far pricier amplification. The ZA3s had no problems driving the X-2s to satisfying levels, even on punishing music. Soundstaging and spatial effects were all preserved on my own live concert recordings. Colour me most impressed with the ZA3’s sonic prowess.

If you are enamoured with the warmth imbued by tube power amplifiers, you may feel the ZA3’s sound is too clean and lacking in the kind of lower midrange and midbass lushness you crave. But if you need a relatively neutral medium-output power amplifier, the ZA3 will be up to the task."

@hilde45, I agree. My experience with the Fosi amps has certainly made me rethink where and how my money might be best spent, at least regarding amplifiers.

Over the past several years, I’ve  concentrated on improving my room acoustics and it is by far the best money I’ve ever spent on improving my listening experience.

I haven't seen that happen. Usually the newcomers jack up their prices to match the industry.

I would not put them in audiophile class. The power is over-rated and it struggles above 5kHz; at 4ohm it loses over 0.5dB and at 8ohm is gains over 1db. If that's what you like, then it's a good deal and you can easily afford the next product update.

@bartsw, If “audiophile class” = expensive, then sure, it certainly doesn’t belong.

“it struggles above 5kHz“, I’m not sure what this means but I didn’t hear them struggling to do anything. My ribbons still sounded amazing.

“at 4ohm it loses over 0.5dB and at 8ohm is gains over 1db”. Are you saying it does this in the treble region or overall? Either way, I couldn’t perceive any gain or loss of db in any region of the spectrum. Perhaps some measurement device could.

As far as what I like, I like my amps to be clean and quiet and unobtrusive. I want my amps to drive my speakers to my preferred level without compression and distortion and just allow the speakers to do their thing.

All I’m saying is, the Fosi’s weren’t a disaster nor a disappointment even though I’m happy to have my PS Audio amps back. I’m not pushing Fosi and after actually spending some time with them, I’m certainly not going to discourage anyone from trying them for themselves.
