Is anyone still using a CD Player

I have a bunch of CDs and the Krell 505 player.  I find myself defaulting to my Aurender Streamer and never listening to CDs.   I’m considering getting a CD Ripper and loading them via HSD or SSD card and loading into the Aurender.  Thoughts?  Am I in the dark ages even keeping the CD Player?

Years ago, I loved the ritual of cleaning, demagnetizing and playing my vinyl. Then it was cds with green discs on top and so on. Then full time streaming. Now, I stream Qobuz for convenience and discovery but fall back on my cds due to owning a ton of mofi 24k discs which simply sound consistently better than some streams. A hybrid approach is best for me. I’m using Pass Labs, Luxman and Devore Fidelity with a full Luna Cables loom and the natural dynamic and organic sound is perfect to my ears. Imagine listening to Getz/Gilberto on Mofi with Astrid in the right channel, only to stream it on Qobuz from the original and she’s in the left channel! Both are right for me, there is no wrong or outdated approach to enjoying your music!

Finally heard CDs on a good player, the Sony CDP-707ESD, that I borrowed from a friend but I was having trouble finding one for myself so I ended up with a very similar player, the Denon DCD-3560. I only have a few hundred CDs left from my collecting days in the 90s/early 2000s, but it’s fun to put one on every once in awhile and hear them sounding better than ever. I remember taking all day long trips to Chicago to hit every Tower Records, etc, looking for Japanese CD releases of my jazz favorites. I’ll hold onto those forever.

@ghdprentice - very grateful , many thanks. Goodbye to storing CDs.

Now I’ve got 23 boxes vinyl LPs x 16” = 368” to clean (Spin Clean + Degritter) and store. Looking for closed door cabinets for an uncluttered look. Many miles to go….

I thought I built a decent streaming system with Hegel H400, optical modules, Melco C1 Ethernet cable, Network Acoustics Tempus Switch & Muon Pro. However, I decided to dust off my extensive collection of CD’s & add the Hegel Viking CD Player. Vikings is optimized for redbook CD’s only & I have to admit things sound better than I remembered…more dynamic & satisfying than the wonderful streaming versions sound. Currently, I’m waiting patiently for the brand new Network Acoustics reference Muon2 Streaming System & the improvements the new filter & cables will make.
