Is anyone still using a CD Player
I have a bunch of CDs and the Krell 505 player. I find myself defaulting to my Aurender Streamer and never listening to CDs. I’m considering getting a CD Ripper and loading them via HSD or SSD card and loading into the Aurender. Thoughts? Am I in the dark ages even keeping the CD Player?

Yes I still buy CDs and play them on 2 CD players I have in different systems and also play them on my BluRay players. There are CDs that aren’t available on streaming services and news ones are being released and also reissued with content that’s new. Ripping is great but I still use the players. Just picked up 2 different versions of Spirt’s Twelve Dreams of Dr. Sardonicus. Will be both ripping and playing them. |
@charliecheese Congratulations on the Singular DAC, I am thinking of getting that DAC once more to upgrade my office DAC. One thing I never tested when I first owned it was connecting a computer directly to one of the 2 USB inputs on the DAC. I have a feeling this is one of the rare DACs that sounds fine with a direct computer connection, maybe just as good as a great streamer. I say this because I have a Schiit AsgardX with the Mesh DAC card and I am shocked at how good the unit sounds connected directly to my noisy laptop. I need to do a head-to-head comparison with my fibre streamer.

Apart from approx' 30-ish Relevant Artist - New Vinyl Album purchases made over the past few years, I also have approx' 10-sh Relevant Artist - New Vinyl Album purchases made. Usually, these are carefully selected performers from whom I am purchasing 'Merch' from through the likes of Band Camp or crowdfunding. I solely purchase new this way, to ensure the artist receives fair remuneration, and not the Streaming Platform taking a 'First-Charge', Record Company taking a 'Second-Charge and the Artist/Performer receiving the scraps.

Every time I upgrade my equipment, such as a new rogue preamp I re-listened to some of my CDs and many sound quite beautiful. It sounds hard to say that it’s hard to predict the relationship of new equipment to the old, digital even vinyl source, but that’s why we listen I use SACD Marantz. Although I hear the latest 10 on might be an improvement |
