Is anyone still using a CD Player

I have a bunch of CDs and the Krell 505 player.  I find myself defaulting to my Aurender Streamer and never listening to CDs.   I’m considering getting a CD Ripper and loading them via HSD or SSD card and loading into the Aurender.  Thoughts?  Am I in the dark ages even keeping the CD Player?

As an avid user of CD's and not minding supporting a Charity, I take great pleasure in purchasing CD's from Organisations that are a Charity.

Commonly, a Half Bag full of CD's on a visit when plenty of choices are in the display costs a little more than £5. What is not to like. Today I have one Classic Album on Vinyl purchased many years ago, and nearly 50-ish Classical CD Albums, some triples, plenty of doubles for not much more than £5, accumulated over a few years. I have more Folk and World Music, more Rock/Blues and a huge collection of Pop. I've even got a collection of Nursery Rhymes and Cartoon Movie Soundtracks for the G'kids. All for about a £50-ish investment.

If a CD is not enjoyed, the Charity receives it back and hopefully gets another donation, along with some new purchases made by me. It is Win-Win

@rwells4 943 million CD sold in 2003, down to 34 million in 2022, surged to 37 million in 2023, and numbers are dropping again...

Yes I still buy CDs and play them on 2 CD players I have in different systems and also play them on my BluRay players.  There are CDs that aren’t available on streaming services and news ones are being released and also reissued with content that’s new.  Ripping is great but I still use the players.  Just picked up 2 different versions of Spirt’s Twelve Dreams of Dr. Sardonicus.  Will be both ripping and playing them.

Just purchased a Schiit Yggdrasil Singular DAC for my transport, so I'm focused on that right now.

@charliecheese Congratulations on the Singular DAC, I am thinking of getting that DAC once more to upgrade my office DAC.

One thing I never tested when I first owned it was connecting a computer directly to one of the 2 USB inputs on the DAC. I have a feeling this is one of the rare DACs that sounds fine with a direct computer connection, maybe just as good as a great streamer. I say this because I have a Schiit AsgardX with the Mesh DAC card and I am shocked at how good the unit sounds connected directly to my noisy laptop. I need to do a head-to-head comparison with my fibre streamer.
