Is anyone still using a CD Player

I have a bunch of CDs and the Krell 505 player.  I find myself defaulting to my Aurender Streamer and never listening to CDs.   I’m considering getting a CD Ripper and loading them via HSD or SSD card and loading into the Aurender.  Thoughts?  Am I in the dark ages even keeping the CD Player?

In the early 2000’s I ripped all my CDs and played from storage. Then as streamers became better I transferred them to my streamer. I gave away my CDs and the stopped playing my ripped CDs. So, I haven’t played a ripped CD for a couple years. Before that I would only play them on the  occasion when I had a streaming problem. That doen’t really happen any more.

So, I think the age of the CD and ripped CD have passed except for nostalgia. You can keep the player and CDs around in case your internet goes out (or store some streamed albums on your streamer), I definitely would not waste your time ripping. It is a time consuming process and in the end pretty useless.

I have two Aurrender streamer. I also have a high end vinyl rig and the streaming is of equally amazing resolution . So, there just is not much of a reason to keep the tech around. I keep the vinyl leg around for nostalgia, but seldom use it.

I have a CD Player in both main system and secondary. Too many albums not available on streaming...aside from issues of sound quality, WiFi signal , and poor reimbursement to artists...and I still enjoy using CD and LP...no right or wrong way here...

@ktgsjs I don’t think you’re in a dark ages keeping your CDs and a cd spinner

In many instances original CDs will sound better than the remastered version on streaming, and physical media will sound better than the ripped version. If convenience is the priority then switch fully to streaming.

+1. The remastered streaming versions are almost always dynamically compressed compared to the originals, sometimes severely so. So even if they are 24/96 "hi-res," they sound worse than the CD rip or the CD or LP itself.

I've ripped all of my CDs and it's been worth the effort.
