In the early 2000’s I ripped all my CDs and played from storage. Then as streamers became better I transferred them to my streamer. I gave away my CDs and the stopped playing my ripped CDs. So, I haven’t played a ripped CD for a couple years. Before that I would only play them on the occasion when I had a streaming problem. That doen’t really happen any more.
So, I think the age of the CD and ripped CD have passed except for nostalgia. You can keep the player and CDs around in case your internet goes out (or store some streamed albums on your streamer), I definitely would not waste your time ripping. It is a time consuming process and in the end pretty useless.
I have two Aurrender streamer. I also have a high end vinyl rig and the streaming is of equally amazing resolution . So, there just is not much of a reason to keep the tech around. I keep the vinyl leg around for nostalgia, but seldom use it.
